Perfect love casts out fear.
In the middle of my insane day yesterday,
when things weren’t going smoothly and I was feeling a bit overstressed,
I “heard” these words:
“I am still here.”
And I remembered…and smiled.
All the times when life hasn’t gone smoothly, but He’s intervened.
All the times when I turned to a human for love and been rejected…
and He loved me still.
All the times when I turned to a human for reassurance
and instead been wounded…
yet His blessed assurance broke through the dark clouds in my heart.
All the times when I’ve failed miserably and instead of His wrath,
I found Grace.
I remember that I am loved with an Everlasting Love…
and no matter how badly I screw things up…
He loves me still…and will never let me go.
His Great Love makes me want to be a better me.
And so I pick myself up, once again, and put one foot in front of the other.
Someday I will be the me that matches His original design.
Until then, I will do my best
(even when my best isn’t “good enough” for humans),
embracing the promise that He will never leave me nor forsake me and that,
out of all who could have been righteously justified in belittling me,
He never did and He never will.
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.
Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
This is how God showed his love among us:
He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God;
but if we love one another,
God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
This is how we know that we live in him and he in us:
He has given us of his Spirit.
And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.
There is no fear in love.
But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.
The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
We love because he first loved us.”
1 John 4:7-19
“You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that
God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?”
