Love is a Shield

When we fully embrace the Love of God…

…that love is a shield against self-righteousness—in ourselves and others.

…that love is a shield against condemnation.

When I’m secure in His love and purpose—
cutting remarks from others don’t hurt as deep as they once did.
I see them and myself through His eyes.
He helps me see them as He does.
He helps me see that they are hurting and only speaking from
their own pain, anger, or misunderstanding.

This love relationship with God must remain top priority!
He is Love and He is my shield.

“If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,
God lives in them and they in God.
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love.
Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
This is how love is made complete among us
so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment:
In this world we are like Jesus.”
1 John 4:15-17

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and
my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’
Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge;
His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
Psalm 91:1-4

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the time.  In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.  These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.  Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
1 Peter 1:3-9

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
Put on the full armor of God so that
you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,
but against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the powers of this dark world and
against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Ephesians 6:10-12
