“Quit getting your hair done when you need heart surgery!”

Imagine you have a friend who was told by their doctor that they needed immediate heart surgery or their life would be in danger. Imagine that this same friend informs the doctor that they don’t have time for something like that…they have appointments to keep…things to do…it will have to wait. Surely you would try to reason with them…convince them that they needed to do what is necessary to repair the damage that had been done to their heart so that they can live.
Our hearts are important to the Lord. Not just our physical heart but the very center of our soul. He yearns to cleanse us of all the damage, all the hurts that have been inflicted upon our hearts by our sins or the sins of others. We spend millions of dollars and oodles of time each year on cosmetics. Reality shows have blossomed into a veritable banquet of “surface worship.” We are a people obsessed with physical appearance when on the inside we are broken and desperately in need of repair.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it’s the wellspring of life.”
God wants to heal our brokenness. He offers us life…not just any life…but one that is full and abundant and lacking nothing.
“…I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
When will we stop trying to put bandaids on our cancer? When will we allow the Great Physician to come in and remove what is holding us back from the complete healing & the inexplicable joy that He alone can give?
