What we embrace each day matters…the thoughts, the images, the attitudes…they all become part of our mindset…our sponge, if you will. We must be careful what we unwittingly accept as true and worthy of having space in our hearts and minds.
Whatever our “sponge” soaks up is what will pour out when life squeezes us.
What pours out when expectations are unmet, when plans go awry? Bitterness or sweet?
A sponge can only pour out what it has soaked up, nothing more and nothing less. We don’t always have control over what incidents in life will squeeze us but we do have control over what we will embrace (soak up) as part of our mindset.
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:5
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
