The Gift of Music

Some people talk about different genres of music as being wrong or even evil.
I don't recall ever reading anything like that in the Scriptures but if I'm wrong, please correct me! I don’t want to be wrong on any instruction that the Bible contains.
What I do know is that words matter!
Jesus Himself is described as The Word.
Words matter to God.
Words matter to me.
Music reaches us deeper than any other method of the delivery of words seems to do.
That is why I am thankful that God, in His infinite wisdom, created and called a wide variety of musicians to deliver words of Truth to the wide variety of people who desperately need Him (um, that would include ALL OF US!).
Someone who loves the music style of Def Leppard is not going to enjoy listening to Amy Grant (believe me, I tried that at my
I am thankful that there are artists in the genres of music that my boys love whose lyrics are clean and real and point to the Truth. <3
Personal preference is different from Biblical mandate.
For those who stand ready with criticism for music they don't personally enjoy, I ask one thing: check your words!
Are your words lifting up or tearing down?
Are you seeking to understand in love or are you seeking to destroy and despise?
Okay...I guess I do have another thing to ask.
What have you done today to deliver God's Love to our broken world?
If you can't answer that question in the positive, get out the way of those who are trying to do just that...using the talents and gifts the Creator instilled in them.

Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word appropriately spoken.
Proverbs 25:11 (CJB)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing made had being. In him was life, and the life was the light of mankind.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not suppressed it.
John 1:1-5

Moreover, I tell you this: on the Day of Judgment people will have to give account for every careless word they have spoken; for by your own words you will be acquitted, and by your own words you will be condemned.”
Matthew 12:36

Then he called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand this! What makes a person unclean is not what goes into his mouth; rather, what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him unclean!”
Matthew 15:10-11

Through him, therefore, let us offer God a sacrifice of praise continually. For this is the natural product of lips that acknowledge his name.
Hebrews 13:15

This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
1 John 4:2-3

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Hebrews 2:14-18 (NIV) (Christ set the example of going to where the hurting people are, even to the point of setting aside His rights as King to come down on our level so we could hear and understand Him better.)
