“Perseverance must finish its work
so that you may be mature and complete,
not lacking anything.”
There are those who have taken
the portion of that verse “not lacking anything” and
use it for their “health & wealth” preaching.
I do believe that God seeks to bless us abundantly,
but His ways are not our ways.
He is wiser and knows that most of us are not mature enough
to handle money without it becoming a pitfall in our lives.
Unlike what some may think/preach, the treasure God has in mind for us
does not necessarily have monetary value.
His blessings are WAY better than money!
Although some are mature enough to handle worldly riches
without straying or keeping it for themselves, most are not.
Worldly riches can be a snare to people’s hearts.
Our Heavenly Father knows this.
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy,
and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
The best treasure to seek has nothing to do with money.
Scriptures repeatedly speak of wisdom as being more valuable than riches.
“Choose my instruction instead of silver,
knowledge rather than choice gold,
for wisdom is more precious than rubies,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.”
“How much better to get wisdom than gold,
to choose understanding rather than silver!”
“Of what use is money in the hand of a fool,
since he has no desire to get wisdom?”
“Do not wear yourself out to get rich;
have the wisdom to show restraint.
Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone,
for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.”
Trusting in money is foolish…it’s false security.
It can be gone in an instant.
Money cannot save us.
Rich or poor…each human being must face
the decay of this world.
Nothing lasts forever,
not even these physical bodies we've been given.
Only the riches God promises are eternal…and secure.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
