In the time we have been stationed here in the UK we have had the opportunity to visit Scotland twice.

The first time we visited (Aug 05), we drove up to Edinburgh via York, Carlisle and Eskdalemuir (along the B709).  The only way I can describe it is that it was like driving through a story book!  We were certainly there but the beauty was so incredible that our eyes could barely believe what we were seeing.  I have many photos from that adventure but beauty of that magnitude cannot be adequately captured on film of any type. : )  Oh how my heart hurt when we had to leave that land!  I just wanted to stay and soak up everything into every fiber of my being.

The second time we visited Scotland (Oct 06) we took a different route.  We drove the A1 all the way up to Edinburgh and were often treated to wonderful views of the North Sea when the road drew near the coastline.  After an overnight stop near Edinburgh, we continued north, driving into the Highlands to see Loch Ness.  We have three boys—of course we had to try to see Nessie!  : )  When we entered the Scottish Borders my heart felt like it was HOME!  It’s very difficult for me to grasp the words necessary to describe the feelings I felt during that incredible weekend—amazed, awestruck, in love!  I felt on the brink of tears many times while we were there because my heart could not soak up enough of the beauty and also because I knew this experience was temporary.  I wanted that magical time to last forever!

1 Corinthians 2:9 was quoted this morning in church and when I heard it my mind spun in the direction of thoughts of Heaven.  “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.”  I don’t know about you, but that really blows my mind!  After all I have seen—there’s even more?!  The beauty my eyes have beheld has permeated everything about me—how can I expect more?  I cannot even wrap my mind around that thought!!  I feel blessed beyond measure already.  Yet, there are many more promises contained in the scriptures that God has made for those who know and love Him.  Scriptures teach that Heaven is beyond our imagination.  I would be content with a Scotland-type land—or something like Hawaii, another place that that caused my heart to doubt my very eyes.  Even as breathtakingly beautiful as those special places are…they pale in comparison to the beauty that we will enjoy in Heaven.  All I can say to that is...WOW!  : )

I trust the promises God speaks in the Holy Bible.  I know His words are true because of what I have seen Him do so far—in my life and in the lives of others when we have yielded to His ways.

I will give God praise for the beauty I have beheld and wait for Him to grow my heart so that it can begin to understand what’s in store in my future.  My own limited imagination just can’t seem to get me there.  : )
