How many times have we been going about our lives…
everything humming along somewhat smoothly…
only to have everything come grounding to a startling halt…
leaving us with a feeling of disconnect from our Heavenly Father?
Just a couple of weeks ago I was experiencing a freedom
and joy that I had never felt so intensely.
My spirit was in tune with my Creator, chains were broken and
this “wordy girl” had no words to adequately describe the feeling.
However, the past couple of weeks have been feeling increasingly “odd”
and when I woke up this morning with a heavy heart…
lines from the Tenth Avenue North song, “You are More,” echoed in my head:
“How did I get here?”
“I’m not who I once was”
How quickly our hearts can become distracted
and drawn away from the Truth!
How quickly can we become careless and lazy
in maintaining our relationship with our Father.
Somewhere along the line, I had allowed myself to become distracted by
a variety of things (events, concerns, hormones,
traditions, emotions, just to name a few)
and my time alone with Him, maintaining our relationship, suffered.
The world has long declared, “Follow your heart!”
Our Heavenly Father has something different to say
and is far more trustworthy than this fallen world!
“God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?”
The One who created us also warns us against trusting our hearts:
“The heart is deceitful above all things
and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?”
We must not allow our hearts to lead us…
we must train our hearts to follow Christ’s leading.
We must be very careful what we adopt into our hearts,
because its influence is very great.
“Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.”
When we “follow our hearts”(especially if they are unguarded)
instead of the Lord God, our Creator & Redeemer,
we will always end up back in a place of befuddlement,
wondering “What happened? How did I get here?”
In this season of thankfulness…I am very grateful that the Lord does not leave us in that place of confusion, but with His ever-present patience and love,
He will show us where we went wrong
and place our feet back on the path He intended for us:
right beside Him. : )
